"Control"

If I were in charge of the world, life would be perfect!  Actually I would settle for total control of my immediate circle.  If my wife, my children, and my grandchildren, would only listen to me, and do exactly what I tell them, then I would have my peace!

Every day I face the battle between trying to interfere, and letting go.  I'm afraid to let go because inevitably things will go bad if I'm not making the decisions....will they not?  Of course they will!  I almost always know better!

How to let go?
I have no idea!
I've lived this way for almost 60 years!
I'm seriously considering the idea that I may never be able to change!

And that depresses me.....

Rest day today.  I cleaned my bike.  She's the only lady in my life that I have control over!  And she's perfect....so there ya go!

Long walk/run tomorrow.

  1. It's easy, just like anything else! All you need to do is practice, practice, practice. Sort of like training for an ironman. As a matter of fact, if letting go of control was an important element if triathlon, I'm sure you would already have it figured out. I could suggest some reading if you like, but you probably want to make that decision yourself;)

  2. If you would like a suggestion, call John for his reading list. If you would like another suggestion, think about what will happen when you're dead, to all of the decisions that depend on you now. Instead of deciding things for people, try to figure out how to get them to think for themselves. If you teach well enough, they will eventually learn well...they also need lots of practice! You and I both know we learn more from our mistakes than anything else. Love you

  3. Like Elly and John said. Also, remember yesterday, I think, when you wrote about learning to fish. If you always provide the fish, what happens when the grandchildren grow up? Are you going to follow them to college? Just think how proud you will be when they catch their own fish. Even if they're not the exact fish you would have provided. Hang in there, little brother. Keep on keeping on, but maybe try a different perspective on what that means.
